John Perkins was born in New Orleans and comes from a musical family. His father was a lead singer from the famous 50's singing group The Crew Cut.

After High school he moved to Florida and spent a number of years working with show bands. The interesting thing is that John was not a drummer at first. One time at a rehearsal the drummer didn't show up so the leader asked John to sit in; an odd twist of fate showed that he was even better than the original drummer. John has been playing the drums ever since. He was working with Brent Johnson in the band Under the Gun when Brent suggested John join the Bryan Lee Blues Power Band. He followed through and has been the "Driving Wheel" for the past 3 1/2 years.
